William Wilberforce Window

St. Paul's Church

Mill Hill, London, 2012

8m²

William Wilberforce led the campaign to abolish slavery in the UK.  This window in the church that he built shows the suffering, but also the triumph, of this accomplishment.

The window displays chains that break as they head towards Heaven.  As the chains go towards the top, they turn golden and head towards the crucifix: a sign of Christ's suffering relating to the suffering of those enslaved. The red dashes in the borders also represent pain and suffering in slavery.
